PRESS RELEASE N. 23/2009

Friday 11th December 2009
POWERBOAT FORMULA 1 Inshore: Guido Cappellini World Champion for the 10th times!!

Sharjah (United Arab Emirates) – Fifteenth and Sixteenth races UIM F1 World Championship

Weather: cloudy - Temp. 15.00pm: 24°C - Humidity: 57% - Water conditions: rough

Stop touching wood, at last we can say it: Guido Cappellini conquers his Tenth World Title!!!
Thanks to the points gained with the third position reached today, the driver from Como conquers a target that nobody else reached in the Formula 1 Inshore World Championship! Zepter Team celebrates in the UAE after a difficult race with a lot of interruptions for as many incidents. Cappellini controlled his direct opponents (especially the UAE pilot Thani Al Qamzi) without thinking to the head of the race. During the first lap an accident between Al Hameli and Price forced the boats to realign as on the starting line, with the difference that Cappellini managed to gain one position, seeing the stop of the American driver Price. After a second restart for the stop of Marco Gambi, the real battle with Thani Al Qamzi began, with also a little collision between the two catamarans, luckly with no consequences for the two boats. In radio contact with the timing, Cappellini decided to manage the situation till the end of the race, preferring not to risk and spoil all the work made to reach the aim of the 10th world title! “It’s the greatest emotion in my life, incredibile, impossibile to describe – Guido Cappellini says – It’s not my practice to race trying to manage the result, I always want to push to win, but today the most important thing was not to win the race, but to gain the points necessary to win the title. With these wheater conditions it was necessary to put our attention on the reliability, seeing also the races of the last years, but this year we manage to do it. The tension before the race was very high, we knew to have the qualities to win and we wanted to do our 100%, but we also knew that we should think for the world title. I would like to thank all my sponsors and who, some years ago, challenged me for the ten World titles. At last I managed to win this challenge. I want to dedicate my most important victory to my niece Francesca and I’m very happy to have won with the nr. 74 in honour of the Special Team Guido Abbate. In this moment I don’t decide yet if I will continue to race, of course I must find strong motivations and then we will see."
The last two races of the championship will be broadcasted delayed on Thursday 17th of December at 10.30 p.m. on Yacht & Sail, Sky channel 214.
